I am privileged to attend a Sunday school class full of insightful people who ask great questions and challenge me to think about ideas in new ways. We study the lectionary, and this week, the leader invited us to read three different versions of Psalm 23 and then write our own. I went to class with a heavy heart from all I had been hearing about General Conference via Facebook, text messages, and phone calls with friends. I share below an edited version of what I wrote. Will you pray with me?
Mothering God, leader and protector,
You meet all my needs,
You offer rest in my noisy life and direction for the journey.
Even in my deepest anguish, I know you suffer with me,
And provide hope for a better future.
I'm in pain right now, but you're planning a party!
You give me reasons to get up in the morning,
And when I think about it,
I realize my life is full of blessing.
Help me remain in relationship with you for all my days.
Amen.
